We went outwith Sally T the last week-end in April. Everyone was very friendly, they provided all that was needed for fishing, bait, rods, buckets, even wet wash clothes to wipe our hands with. The crew showed us how to work the rods and we even caught some fish. It was totally worth it and we'll go again.

We had so much fun this Thursday. We can't wait to come back and bring friends and family. They set you up with everything you need. Just show up, and they'll take care of you. We went out for a half day trip in the morning. We were out from 8AM till Noon, and we came back with over 20 fish in our bucket between the two of us. Super fun.

Who knew charter fishing was so cutthroat! I am not a friend of Sally T employees nor have I had the chance to fish with them yet BUT I am looking forward to fishing with them and at that time I will make an opinion, an honest opinion, not just some spiteful comments to hurt their business because I didn't catch enough fish or because I am a competing boat trying to draw their business away. I have had dealings with Sally T in that I reserved spots to fish and due to some terribly bad weather, the trip was cancelled. Despite the fact that it was a fully booked Saturday and the Capt had a lot of people to call about the cancellation, the Capt was very polite and called me and also was polite when I called back that day, twice. I am sure he was fielding calls all day, so I appreciate the time he took to talk to me. I will be fishing with them in the future and look forward to doing so.

Hey, Sally T. You can fool some people sometime, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

We know which fake posts are yours. Your atrocious grammar is one giveaway. Another is the vitriol you display for anyone who has given you a less-than-stellar review. Both are common themes in the responses here from you and your "friends."

I have fished with you in the past and have had some good trips as well as some lousy ones. That's the way it goes with headboats. I understand this, and I would have gladly fished with you in the future too, had I not read through this drivel and seen how you have handled some of these reviews.

It is painfully obvious that y'all have absolutely no clue how to handle online criticism. You're doing it all wrong. A Public Relations course at your local community college might be worth looking into.

I have read that the crew was cooking food and smoking. This charter boat has no permit to prepare and/or serve any food. If they do you should report it to the Health Department in Hampton. Any food prepared served to the public on this vessel is not approved and is a risk for foodborne illness.

Happy customer, Hampton, va - 12/21/2011

You should really know what you are talking about befor you open your mouth... The Sally T is a federal boat and not regulated by the city of Hampton they have had the health department down to the boat and the health department knows what they do and how they are doing it. If you have any questions ask someone who knows.

Avatar_thumbnail

Capt Pete, Hampton, va - 12/21/2011

Dear bob We will be more than happy to discuss the differance between a federally regulated ocean going vessel compared too a vessel restricted to lakes bays and sounds. Please call for appointment Capt. Pete Thank you happy customer

Avatar_thumbnail

Bob, Hampton, VA - 12/21/2011

Seems I DO know what I am talking about! I have spoken to the Coast Guard and have been advised that the Sally T is licensed to operate as passenger vessel, has a certificate of inspection and the captain is licensed. The certificate of inspection covers ONLY safety aspects of the vessel such as wiring for the galley and other parts of the ship as well as other things(eg. radio, emergency signals, etc.). It does not cover food safety and food handling. As per the Coast Guard this does not preclude them from complying with state regulations. Since they are docked in state waters and operate in state waters AND serve food to their passengers they must comply with Health Department regulations. It makes no difference whether they are in a lake, river or the bay.

Avatar_thumbnail

Secratary of the sally t, Hampton, va - 12/21/2011

Never said that the coast guard was the one that regulated it but we have had the health department down and had no problems them thank you very much and if you are so opinionated try using your real name

Avatar_thumbnail

Bob, Hampton, VA - 12/27/2011

After your last statement I decided to call the Health Department in Hampton. According to them you are NOT supposed to be preparing and serving food to the passengers on the boat. You have no permit and were supposedly told last spring that you were to stop immediately. If and when they have a previous passenger/customer file a complaint they will apparently address this issue further.

Went out on 12/4. Gorgeous day for fishing!! Fairly calm seas, little wind, sunny, and not cold. Got frustrated early in the trip when the only person catching fish was the deck hand. But all was forgiven when I caught my limit and my son caught a nice 21 incher!!
I'm hoping to go again on Friday, December 23rd. Still need a few more passengers to sign up though!!

Went out on the Sally T today. Great weather, great fishing, great crew!!! Had lots of fun and my son and I went home with 2 very nice stripers!! I highly recommend the Sally T and her crew.
Also, when I called to make these reservations, I had to leave a message but they called me back within a couple of hours. And when I had to call back to change my reservation I had to leave another message. They called me back that evening because when I called they were out doing what they do best...taking people out on the water to catch fish.
I am going back out on the Sally T within the next month because I know I'll have a fantastic time and I'll come home with fish!!

I purchased the Groupon for a full day trip and we drove out this past Sunday. I had sailed with a competing head boat in Hampton before, so I mistakenly assumed they were both in the same spot. Wrong. When I explained my mistake to the captain of the other headboat, he said the Sally T wasn't sailing that day. I was surprised, since Sunday was a good weather day. It turned out that all 12 anglers on our trip limited out on stripers. What bothers me is that I called the Sally T phone number twice (once on Friday, once on Saturday) to make and then confirm my reservation...we had over an hour to drive each way...and never received a courtesy call to tell us that they were not sailing on Sunday. Yes, I left my return phone number both times. If the other boat wasn't sailing, we would have been screwed.

We may not be able to make it out again before the December 31 expiration date of the Sally T Groupon, but I ASSUME that if we show up next season, that the paid-in value of the Groupon will be accepted as credit towards the full fare of the next trip. Perhaps someone can confirm this for me.

I have been on the Sally T several times and am impressed by the crew and Capt; they take good care of their customers, helping first time fishers with bait and tackle.Sometimes the fish are not in the same hole all the time, therefore, the boat moves around. It is the captain's responsibility to provide a safe environment for everyone on board. If you don't understand something about the trip, just ask and it will be answered. Not very boat trip results in fish on line. That why it's not called catching.

This team is the worst, unprofessional, co,ld, and lier crew/ excusescaptain I've ever seen. My family (including my 3 kids) and 18 other friends drove 3h and 50 minutes fromm MD all ready for a fun day, and on the last minute the captain came up with the same excuses he gave to other people who came a couple of days ago: too windy, no fish, flags here and there...but the true to the matter is the he didnt want to leave.only groupon orders dont seem to be lucrative for them. We called other boats around and they had all left and said the the weather was great. Ocean Eagle is a much better option. DO NOT USE T SALLY. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF FAT LIERS, UNPROFESSIONALS, AND MANY OTHER THINGS I CANT SAY HERE..

The Sally T, Hampton, Virginia - 11/07/2011

We called everyone on our list (including several people in the navy who were paying cash and used to being out in bad weather) yeasterday to warn of the up comming bad weather and that the was cancled due to wind. The Sally T's first and only concern is to keep everyone safe not money or FISH! You said that you called the Ocean Eagle and ask them how the weather was and the guy in the OFFICE said that it was nice out, However the Captian "Bret" said if he was not getting paid he would not be out in that kind of weather, you as the customer do not get that info. We were told when we called that your group did not want to loose money paid out for hotels. Had this group been a bounch of consenting ADULTS the trip may have been considered however your group had small children under 10 and it is our job to protect them. The weather man can GUESS no better what the conditions will be then we can. We have always tried our best to satisfy our customers with discount tickets when we dont catch fish, or offering to give a free trip in place of a groupon so that the deadline would not be Dec. 31, 2011 but Dec. 31, 2012.

A Reel CoolChick, Virginia - 11/07/2011

I wasn't going to post a review or comment until after my trip. But, I also purchased the Groupon and had my trip booked for 11/5. I read the wind reports and called Sally T on Thursday morning to see if the trip was still on. I got the captain on the phone, he looked up my name, confirmed my trip and said that he would reschedule the trip due to 19+mph wind. Well, he must have forgot that he talked to me that day, because he called me the next day and left a message saying that the 11/5 trip was cancelled. Also, I got an online message from another person saying they got a VM message from the captain. VA, I'm not going to call you a liar, but I got a call and so did another person...I don't see why he would purposely skip people on the call list. Lastly, I'm glad he paid attention to the wind reports and was proactive enough to reschedule...I personally wouldn't want to be in a boat on rough waters.

I, too, like other reviewers bought the Groupon for the half day fishing trip that expired Sept 30th. Like others, I faced a lot of difficulty reaching someone (with no return calls for messages left) but was finally able to book a trip. After driving several hours to get to the dock for 7 AM, as they requested, I came to find out that they had cancelled the trip due to inclement weather. When I asked why didn't they call as soon as they had realized the trip was going to be cancelled to save me the 2-hour long drive there, the boat worker said someone did call, which obviously was not the case. The coupon has now expired, and fortunately, groupon gives a credit for any unused, expired coupon. Due to their poor customer service, I feel no desire to go on any trips with Sally T.

We the Sally T have a few questions to ask. 1) If your trip "took place" prior to Sept 30th why is your comment writen the end of Oct? 2) If you did drive out to the boat and "If" we did cancel the trip then your Groupon would not have expired we would have honered it passed the experition date like all the others.

We took a half-day trip (Groupon) and had good luck - enjoyed the trip so much that when the opportunity for the full day trip appeared, we jumped on it. We are going tomorrow and can hardly wait! The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and very helpful. The mate cleaned our fish for us and we went home with a nice "mess" of fish! Definitely a good experience! We have our own boat and know that there are days you catch fish and days you don't - a fish-finder is no guarantee (we have one of those too!). It was nice to have someone else looking for the fish and manning the boat for a change.

After reading the reviews before going on the Sally T, I had my reservations on whether it was going to be a good trip. But I am glad to say the fishing trip was a success. There were a total of 16 people on board fishing and we all met our quota of 10 a piece of Blue Fish. We stopped three different times before the captain had us on top of the fish. The First time we stop, 1 fisherman caught a striper but it was not in regulation to keep. When we stopped the 2nd time, 2 small black bass were caught.
The captain took us up to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, that's when the fishing took off.
The deck hands were exceptional, one deck hand that was on the boat wasn't even suppose to work, (it was his day off). But he chipped in and helped everyone on the boat. By the time we ended up back at the dock, he had cleaned and filet everyone of 160 fish that was caught. I would highly recommend the Sally T.
I hope you don't get discouraged by the other reviews, I thought it was a wonderful trip.

I too went on this trip. I had my reservations about going because of the bad comments left. I am glad I didn’t follow the advice of the ill hearted folks. I had a Groupon along with 4 other friends. The five of us had a blast. Chris (the off duty crew member) helped out with everyone’s fish on the boat. He caught his limit, Capt. Pete’s limit and still filleted all 160 fish before we docked. The ones on the fence about making reservations don’t be make your reservation today. I just made my second trip reservation.

The worst fishing trip I have ever been on. One of the rating categories should be professionalism, because they would have gotten a BIG ZERO. The Sally T was scheduled for a full day of fishing (8am to 3 pm) We got underway 15 minutes late and spent the first two hours getting to our initial fishing spot but it was to windy and instead of getting closer to shore we headed towards another reef that was another hour away. Once we arrived at the reef we fished for 1 hour and got back underway. Spent another 1 1/2 hours heading back to the Hampton Roads Bridge area. Fished in various spots around the bridge for 30 minutes and HEADED BACK TO THE DOCK. WE ARRIVED BACK AT THE DOCK 45 MINUTES EARLY. We spent 1 1/2 hours fishing, 4 1/2 hours looking for the fish, and Sally T Charter cut us an hour short total. Feel like we got ripped off for the amount of money we spent for a full day. Not to mention some of the crew smoking cigarettes in the galley area while cooking food.

Hi Maria this is Rebecca from Yorktown and I to bought a groupon for a half day fishing trip.(expired sept 30)Time got away from me and before I knew it, it was Sept. 14th oh my gosh groupon expires the 30th dang it! So i call to make a reservation for a weekend trip...no answer so I leave a message assuming someone will get back with me b4 the days out. That was my first mistake assuming because you know what happens when you do that. It was my responsibility to call the Sally T back after 24 hours if I did not get a response but I waited 3 or 4 days which was MY fault and only mine!! When I called the second time I had a call back to me in less then 30 minutes which leads me to believe my first message either didn't go through or was not clear enough to understand for the members of the Sally T. By the time I talked to the Captain (which is awesome) they only had 2 morning trips left and that was the morning of the 28 and a few spots left on Friday the 30th. I quick called my husband to see if he would wat to take Wednesday off work so I did not lose out on my groupon. Luckily he was able to take off if not my girlfriend and I would have gone instead. It is so darn easy to blame someone else for your inability to keep track of the time when we all live in a very chaotic world with kids and work and other personal responsibilities. I was so happy with our trip I just purchased the full day trip and I plan to call tomorrow to book ahead of time so I can get that weekend trip. This fishing vessel is awesome and so is the crew. I am sorry for all who didn't use their groupon but I am sure if you calmly explained what happened the Captain would work something out with you guys because that's the type of person he comes by as being. Now if you just waited till the last minute and tried to get a trip in then that myfriend is your own fault and please own up to it and not pass the buck. I suggest you try calling and seeing what could be done so you and your family could enjoy a day filled with awesome fishing. I just hope you didn't burn your bridges already like I thnk some of you have by your tones in the emails. You catch more bees with honey then you do with vineger. Happy fishing to all!!

Purchased a groupon from these people and made SEVERAL attempts to schedule a trip prior to the expiration of the groupon with no success, as they have had "family emergencies". The groupon is for a half day trip for two and expires today, the 30th. I have called nearly every day this week and left messages to attempt to get what I paid for. They are no longer doing the half day charters so my groupon was a pure waste of money. Each message I have left has been ignored, and I am furious to have spent hard-earned money on something that they refuse to honor. I expected much more from this family business, and will certainly be looking into a Better Business Bureau complaint and violations of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act- see VA Code Section § 59.1-200-8...

Same thing happened to me. They ignored all my calls.

I have fished with this boat before and they have been both very polite with all the groupon customers and very busy. Being a family business they do not have someone to answer the phone, it is the captains personal cell phone and they have had people calling till one in the morning. I know that they have returned every call that left a message that you could hear and that left a return number. Not that its anyone's business but they did not cancle any trips for personal reasons, the only trips that were cancled were because of the hurican if you remember that little storme of course that could have taken you out fishing and thrown your asses over. And just in case you didnt know because your MOTHERS were that good at LYING but you are not the center if the universe and just because you wanted to go fishing on the weekend doesent mean that their is anyroom if you waited till the last minute to book a trip, they were booked out 3 to 4 weekends in advanced. So if you are one of the people that call 200 times for the same date after being told it was sold out try directing your anger in two places one your self for being a dumbass and two the people that book a trip and did not show up. Any one that reads this I HOPE that you dont put much store in what the people who own the world say.

"Friend" of the sally T- What a professional response. Cursing and making mom jokes really speaks to your knowledge, or lackthereof. While your uninformed assumptions give you a rush from the little man syndrome you clearly suffer from, you are wrong. If you're so sure they return every call, then maybe you should volunteer to help out and return calls that I and my fellow grouponers are still waiting for. I began calling in August and have only received one response to date, citing the family emergency, so you should keep your opinions to yourself and get the facts straight. Unless of course you're more than a friend of the Sally T using this forum to cowardly respond to disgruntled customers. Hurricanes do not constitute family emergencies. Seems to be a simple case of over-selling the groupon and being unable to meet the demand, in which case paying customers deserve a refund. Very cut and dry, but the Sally T is refusing to provide what is rightfully owed. Or at least that's what their silence seems to convey. They are profitting from a service they have not provided (as they have already been paid by groupon), and have not given me, as well as others who have called, the courtesy of a response. Again, FRIEND of the Sally T, if you're so passionate about the company, get in there and make it work. And if you have so much pent-up frustration about "the people who own the world" get off your couch (or boat) and go do something about it, but bear in mind that the customers who have been left hanging are certainly not running the world. If so, we would have a great fishing trip to have shared on this site, or at the very least, the courtesy of a response. Anchors Away...

I bought multiple groupons for my family that was in town unfortunately I waited too long to book my trip and the boat was booked up a couple of weekend in advanced. As I have a 9 to 5 job I was only avalible on the weekend. My family was unable to enjoy this fishing trip I however booked a trip for the end of the groupon and although it was not the time I wanted to go my son and I had a great time. I hope that if anyone that is posting on this site ,about how this boat is screwing people, they did not wait till the last minute and are trying to pass the blame.
