Amazing twilight squid trip.

Caught the fish count from Seaforth online while looking for something other than sturgeon fishing in San Francisco and saw the catch numbers for squids were in the hundreds....every night for one month running.

The humboldts were hitting hard on deep drop jigs, so we caught a flight down to san diego from san francisco.

Set out into calm seas with a five to seven foot swell and rode offshore for about ten miles. Capt put us right on the perfect drift...and as soon as the sun went down, guys all down the line started connecting at about 900'. In a matter of minutes, the squids were up at 200' and every one was wailing on them.

Mates were on point - the ENTIRE night. Solid gaff shots all the way, and each mate covered a section of the boat...so no squid at the surface was left unattended. Aside from the few seasick anglers...everyone fought squids till the point of exhaustion or back ache.

A painless ride back to the dock while the mates cut everything to suit - and bagged it ready to go.

The whole Seafoth outfit is one tight operation - very professional - and skilled at their squid fishing craft.

They certainly have the routine down. No question.

I highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to battle a giant squid or test your fish fighting stamina against one tough cephalopod.

When the hell else could you possibly have to do besides catch giant squid?
