Booked a trip with Super Strike Charters in July 2011. Fished with Capt. Damon Mcknight in his 33ft. Freeman. Both were about as good as you can get for offshore fishing. Unlike some of the others we have fished with in Venice. The professionalism portrayed by the Capt. and his deckhand was everything that we figured it would be after speaking with him on the phone. The equipment was top of the line and the boat was very well kept. The fishing was incredible and we cannot wait to go back again. Our group ended up with 10 Yellowfin Tuna and we called it a day, most avg. about 80lbs. The fishing in this area is truly incredible and definitely the best in the country. We have already rebooked for next year and hope the fishing will be as good.
We had a chance to charter with Super Strike Charters in February 2011. By the amount of pictures and videos it seemed as though they knew exactly what they were doing. The boat was great plenty of room, clean, and obviously well maintained. Definitely a fishing machine. The Captain and deckhand seemed to know all there is to know about fishing offshore. Some of the techniques used were something that you can only gain with experience. It took several different techniques to get the fish going that we could see on the side of the boat. Finally live baiting and chumming at the same time was the key. They had to get the fish frenzied up and move to lighter leader which took us from catching one or two to catching plenty very quick. We ended the day with 8 Yellowfin tuna and about 12 blackfin tuna. It was a great day of fishing. We hit the weather just right and it was about 2ft. chop and in the mid 60's. I highly recommend fishing with Super Strike Charters. We will be back again next year.

I have to say I was very excited about catching some big Yellowfin Tunas with Super Strike Chartes, especially with all their photos and videos of people doing so well. So, I booked a charter with them early in the season, maybe a little too early. The weather was cold in the 30s to start, but heated up into the low 50s during the day. Would like to let folks know that the trip from Venice to the edge of the Gulf takes about 1 hour through the flats and about another 45 min - 1 hour to get to the fishing spots. This is important because if you are going when its cold or rainy you need to dress appropriately. Super Strike Charter boats are clean and good in size, but built for fishing - center console with no cabin (and no restroom - sorry ladies), there is no protection from the elements - even with water proof pants, boots, thermals, water proof top and jacket - it was cold. The ride was very bumpy going out - partly from the chop on the water (noted that super strike does not go out in waves if they register 4 feet - actually very nice of them to do for the customer) and the speed of travel, again plenty of space for fishing, and only one spot to sit for the ride out and some bean bags for you. The first spot we got to was some subermerged oil rigs that had been sunk by storms/huricannes. We fished for amberjack and boated one 30 lb fish, and had a couple of other hook-ups, but didnt get the fish in. We had to stop fishing for the amberjacks because we ran out of large live mullet (didnt have many in the live well - I guess the captin said it was hard finding bait the day before). Anyways, we trolled out to the next spot a reef of some sort (an area the year before the tunas had shown up early in the season). We immediately got hits, but from kingfish in the 15-23 lb range. This was still exciting, but as there were many of them out there we got several that came across the lines -- cutting them off. We lost around 4 lures, when the captin decided to call that quits (sort of complaining how many lures he was losing and their expense). We then proceeded to chum and drift for tunas/wahoos. We put only 2 lines in with the captin and mate manning both at first, then i got to hold one and drift (there were 4 of us on the trip). We used about one box off bait (25 lb) for chumming and fishing. We hooked up and lost many kings (eventually caught 6 in all to 30lbs). And one 150 lb black tip - i told them to release (man, wish it were a tuna).
So in summary, you probably don't want to be the first folks of the season out there trying to catch tunas (wait for a report that they are in, dont rely on the reports of the season before). If you have ladies with the group or need a restroom, this charter is not for you. If its going to be cold or rainy out, dress appropriately, and again, due to boat design, this charter is not for you. The captin does try and will put you on fish, but i really didnt appreciate the complaining about how much his lures cost and then not having enough live bait for the amberjacks (especially when you are paying for his fuel, the trip and tip - 300 for fuel, 1300 for trip and 300 for tip).
